Frankfurt Christmas Market

Guten Tag!

Eric and I decided to take the train down to Frankfurt for their Christmas market. We had heard it was much better than Marburg's and wanted to test the theory for ourselves. We decided that it would be best to do the market at night so we went to a museum beforehand. Here we are on our way to the 'Liebieghaus Sculpture Museum'.

This is the museum. It used to be a wealthy guy's vacation home, now it is a museum.

I am wearing my new jacket my mom bought me for Christmas! My readers will be seeing a lot of this jacket in future posts. I got it at the Marburg equestrian store but I will never let it get near a horse. Thanks mom!

The museum is all about sculpture; from ancient times until about the 19th century. They had a lot of really nice pieces. It was a nice change from looking at paintings.

 This was the secret overflow exhibit area that is only open once a month- we timed it right!

After the museum we went off to the Christmas Market! We actually met some friends there who live in Frankfurt. We had a great time wandering around asking them German Christmas culture questions. Somehow I did not get any pictures of them- sorry Sebastian and Katha!

First stop was the honey booth. We sampled a ton of delicious honeys and planned to come back and buy honey and mead. Sadly the booth closed before we got back! I am still thinking about the walnut honey I was not able to buy...

Here is our first Gluhwein stop. We got fancy clay mugs! It was really crowded so we had to step off onto the side street so that we could stand and enjoy the drinks; that is why Eric's background it not very Christmas market like.

Our next priority was dinner. Eric and I both got soup! It was delicious; we even managed to secure a sticky gluhwein table to eat at.

More shop browsing after dinner. I have had requests for German pottery so I tried to take pictures when I came across it.

Time for more food! Here I am with my chocolate covered marshmallow thing that our friends highly recommended. Eric got a deep fried dough ball. I intentionally had a salad for lunch because I knew this was coming. 

We walked through the super packed Christmas decorations booth. Eric got very excited because they had the exact wooden advent thing his mom has!

Looking at things is hard! Time for another gluhwein break.

Those shelves in the back are full of french fries! 

The market closed at 9 and it was time to go back to Marburg. The Christmas market was huge! I don't think we saw 1/3 of it. We had a really nice time and were sorry we could not see more.
