Digging Rocks! Or, Can you Dig it? Part 2

Israel part two! After our successful Saturday in Jerusalem the group did some slightly more organized touring on Sunday. We took a trip to... an archeology site!
This one had cool mosaic floors that were being uncovered.

Our very nice and informative guide giving us the tour.

Olive press.

Scenic viewpoint in the West Bank at a different stop.

Joseph's tomb.

Armed guard at the tomb!

Cool church where we visited Jacob's Well.

Back at the dig site! I found this hole at the base of one of our walls.
I will now spend the next week digging it out.

Some decent pottery came out of it- a complete base to a pot!

Me and Scott with a coin that came from the hole.

The coins are small. Here is a different coin that was found (right)
next to a Shekel which is about the size of a dime (left).

My hole is the one next to the wall, the round one in the front belongs
to the other square next to us.

Bone in the pit! They all looked like animal bones.

A complete pot handle. Pit is looking deeper!

Meanwhile the guys are still excavating on the other side of my wall.

Mom is working on the wall.

The most exciting find! (For me and Dad).

Pottery with a complete rim!!

I hit rock bottom and then turned left! Now excavating the tunnel.

Only awkward ways to excavate the tunnel. Those are my legs on the gound.

Pit is deep!

Some scenes around the site. Here is our photographer setting up.

A way cool entrance and stairs that were found a few squares over.

On the last day they loaded us up in one of the local worker's trucks
and drove us to the top of the hill next door.

We looked at some ruins and a nice view.

Mom also helped out in the pottery tent with some identifying and paperwork.
Sadly she did not put this pot together but it is still pretty cool.

 Family picture at the site.

My pit on the last day! Unfortunately I did not have time to finish excavating the tunnel.

The hard work accomplished up top- also not enough time to finish.

Now is time for my daily pictures I took of the site.
Before (just starting on the morning of day one).

Day 10

A cool photo of the entire site from a little remote controlled
drone plane. Can you find my pit?

Group photo of all the volunteers and staff members.

What a crazy yet memorable vacation! I wish we had more time to finish excavating our square and to do some more site seeing. But after two weeks is was nice to get back to Germany. Everyone on this dig was super nice and we all had a great time. Digging Rocks!
