Marburg Apartment

Guten Tag!

Welcome to my blog; a place where I can ramble on about my year abroad in Marburg. This is not my first trip to Germany, however it is my first time living in a foreign country. Eric has a post-doctorate position at the University of Marburg which is what has brought us here.

The name of the blog reflects the thing I find myself saying most often- 'Do you speak English?' Luckily my lack of German has not been an issue. Everyone has been very friendly and willing to work with my poor language skills.

Here are a few pictures of our apartment:

Our place is small but full of character. As you can see there is a lot of natural light and we have a very nice balcony that helps make it feel larger than it really is. We are also located very close to downtown and are only a short walk to grocery stores etc. (Marburg town post coming soon- you must be satisfied with the Marburg apartment post for now).

A few hours south of us in Bietigheim-Bissingen live our friends the Grözingers. We spent the weekend with them and besides having a wonderful time at the horse fair (Pferdemarkt) they gave us all of this!!!

A whole lot of wonderful household goods- everything from cleaning supplies to dishes to homemade jams. There is even a cell phone in there, which has been great! We are able to buy minutes (for very cheap) and load them on the phone. This mostly allows us to make outgoing calls. Don't get too excited, for right now email is the best way to contact us as we plan on only using the phone to make outgoing calls.

Unfortunately we only have this apartment until the end of September. We are currently looking at our moving options- all of them seem quite expensive. I guess the good news is if you loved this post about the Marburg apartment you will get another apartment post soon.

Auf Wiedersehen!

  2. You mean you cleaned the apartment to take pictures of it? I dunno about this... I think I would prefer seeing it in its natural state.

    1. She also strategically omitted a corner where all our clothes are piled since we don't have enough closet space!

  4. When I click on your profile, it says you're a blogger since January 2012. Have you been secretly blogging for over a year somewhere?

    1. Pretty comfy! However, we have one feather pillow and one lumpy pillow. I used to have the feather one but then Allison stole it. We tried to buy a new pillow but it was €80 so we bought lunch instead (true story).

Based on advice from the locals, this weekend we're going to make an expedition to the cheap pillow stores in the next village down the river.

  7. Love the pictures. You should try to take a foto of a different fountain for each blog. Or maybe the "trinkwasser" fountains. JRJ
