This is everyone at dinner on their first day in Germany. Dale and Cindy were troopers and went out to the old town for dinner. They must have been very tired after their long flight that arrived that morning.
The next day Eric had to go to work so I was the tour guide. First stop was Elizabethkirche.
We continued into the old town and did a little shopping along the way,
such as at the Marburg pottery store!
We took the bus up to the castle where we got to enjoy nice views and the
pleasant restaurant at the top.
I have a lot of pictures of Dale and Cindy taking pictures.
Everyone's favorite fountain.
Lunch time!
Everyone ordered the schnitzel. It is basically like a breaded pork chop and is a traditional German dish that is EVERYWHERE. We also ordered Apfelwein which is a special Hessen beverage.
After a quick stop at the grocery store, we went back to the apartment to wait for Eric. Dale and Cindy enthusiastically agreed to play 'Marburg Monopoly' which Eric has never wanted to play with me. I skillfully dominated the game. This is Dale looking sad over the loss. However, he is not very good at looking sad so he just looks kind of creepy.
Eric came home and much rejoicing was in order. I cooked dinner and we spent the rest of the evening playing board games which is a Walkingshaw favorite pastime.
The next night, Eric and I went to the Marburg Dolphins women's basketball game. Dale and Cindy were pooped after another long day of Marburg touristing and decided to stay in for some down time. Eric and I went to the much anticipated playoff game. We lost, but it was still a lot of fun, and we still had time to play a game or two with Dale and Cindy when we got back.
Here we are on some other day, eating a quick lunch I prepared.
Plus Eric and Dale getting some more gaming in.
Another big Marburg adventure was enjoying the Lahn river.
Huzzah! Here at long last is the fish that I think was suppose to be on the Brothers Grimm walk many months ago.
We also rented paddle boats! Eric and I have been meaning to do this for a while. We got two boats, however both of them had really awful steering. Eric and Cindy's looks like a real boat, but trust me, it was much worse than ours!
One of the great things about Germany is all the bakeries that make fresh food every morning. Eric and Dale made many trips to forage for baked goods.
Marburg decorated the city with pretty Spring planters!
The Spiegelslustturm, another Marburg must.
The next day we left for the Rhine river. We really had a nice time in Marburg though. It was very relaxed and full of old town viewing and board game playing. Stay tuned for A LOT of castles...
